The name ‘Hora-Yan’ is a portmanteau of the Thai nickname for Alocasia macrorrhizos: HORA and YAN as the last three letters of ‘MaYAN ‘Mask
Pollination was performed on August 23, 2025. The berries ripened to a bright red on November 11, 2025. The photos included here, received from Wirachai, are at about a seven month mark. Wirachai believes they are nearing adult size is awaiting the first inflorescences.
Alocasia 'Hora-Yan' features medium-green leaves with a compact habit—mid-sized stems and balanced petiole lengths that keep the leaf blades gracefully proportioned. Its most standout physical trait is the exceptional thickness of the foliage. Although it did not inherit the purple abaxial coloration from the pollen parent, nor the metallic silvery undersides from Alocasia macrorrhizos, the venation across the leaf surface beautifully blends traits from both parents.
