ALOCASIA MACRORRHIZOS ‘STINGRAY’

DESCRIPTION: Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Stingray’ is a mutant cultivar of Alocasia macrorrhizos characterized by deeply undulate margins, orbicular shape and cupping, and most characteristically, an abnormally elongated apical drip tip, which gives it its distinct name, due to its similarity to that of a stingray.

Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Stingray’ was first discovered in the Sarawak region of Malaysian Borneo, where several variations of the plant were found growing in small villages. It then gained popularity after being propahated in Thailand, and by the early 2000s it made its way to the US where it became popular with growers.
