PARENTAGE: Alocasia ‘Aurora’  x Alocasia ‘Polly’

SYNONYMS: Alocasia ‘Pink Dragon’

HYBRIDIZER: Hybridized in May 2007 by Marian Osiecki, and patented by Oglesby Plants International in 2013 under the moniker ‘ALO3” and protected by USPP 25803P2

VARIEGATION: N/A

DESCRIPTION: Alocasia ‘Morocco’ is characterized by its medium size, rapid and vigorous growth, with strong basal shoot production leading to a very symmetrical growth habit. The foliage is notable for its dark green, thick, and glossy leaves that feature veins surrounded by a narrow silver shadow, contributing to the plant's aesthetic appeal. The leaf blades, which range from sagittate to hastate in shape, are closely overlapping and have a dark burgundy glossy underside, providing a striking visual contrast.

The robust, light pink petioles are thick and adorned with green or brown streaks, supporting the sturdy leaves. This hybrid thrives easily under diverse lighting conditions, from low to high, and is adaptable to a wide range of temperatures.

When compared to its seed parent Alocasia ‘Aurora’, Alocasia ‘Morocco’ shows more vigorous growth and is more compact in stature, achieving a height of 30-35 cm in a 6" pot as opposed to Alocasia ‘Aurora’s 50-60 cm. Its denser, more symmetrical form, along with its smaller, darker, and glossier leaves, differentiates it from Aurora (the abaxial side of Alocasia ‘Aurora’ leaves is green and matte, compared to the burgundy glossy abaxials of Alocasia ‘Morocco’). The silver shadow on Alocasia ‘Morocco’ s leaf veins is broader and darker, and the petioles are thicker, with light pink coloration and distinctive green streaks.

Relative to its pollen parent, Alocasia ‘Polly’, Alocasia ‘Morocco’ is taller, fuller, and produces basal shoots earlier and more abundantly. The leaf blades of Alocasia ‘Morocco’ are larger and oriented more horizontally, with a thicker and more pronounced silver shadow along the veins.

Alocasia ‘Morocco’ demonstrates a strong tolerance to disease and stressful conditions, making it a robust choice for growers and enthusiasts alike.
