ALOCASIA MICHOLITZIANA ‘EMERALD TIDE’

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION: Alocasia micholitziana ‘Emerald Tide’ is a mutant cultivar of the widely grown Alocasia micholitziana ‘Green Velvet’, introduced in 2025. It is distinguisehed by deeply undulating (ruffled) leaf margins, a broader and higher sinus angle, and a more open, deep sinus compared to the species type.

Even more interesting is the unusual mutation expressed on the abaxial surface (bottom of the leaf), characterized by subtle mottling and irregular pigmentation between veins, suggesting a mutation in chlorophyll distribution. The embossed or raised effect and uneven lamina texture suggest potential mutations from tissue culture that affect leaf morphogenesis (similar to those seen in Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Shock Treatment’ and Xanthosoma sagittifolium ‘Variegatum Monstrosum’)

SYNONYMS: Alocasia ‘Frydek Tattoo’
